The Museum Of Innocence

Dates : 7/1/2010 - 12/31/2010

The Museum Of InnocenceThe project involves the realization of the museum narrated in the novel “The Museum of Innocence” published in August 2008 by the Nobel laureate author Orhan Pamuk. When completed, the museum will exhibit a poetic and documentary representation, following the traces of culture, everyday life items, photographs and films of the last half century of Istanbul, particularly putting an accent on the ‘70s. The museum is conceptualized on the literary basis of the novel and besides taking its strength from this original idea, is designed as an inventory of the local culture, images (photographs, pictures, films) and urban mobility (the boats, the Bosphorus, the cityline ferries, the buses, special vehicle images, maps, tickets, tokens, etc.) of Istanbul, mentioned independently from the novel.

The Museum of Innocence, which will be opened in the neighborhood of Çukurcuma near to Tophane district, will be close to literature and Istanbul lovers. On the streets of the city still continuing to preserve the traditional architecture inherited from the beginning of the 20th century, the projected museum also aims to enliven this part of the city, to refresh the consciousness for preservation in these spaces and to carry the idea of a modern personal museum to the oldest streets of Istanbul.
