Thirty sculptors from 10 countries who have begun working on sand sculptures at the Antalya sand sculpture festival will finish their works on April 20.
The theme of this year’s festival is “Mythology II.”
Festival director Cem Karaca said the artists were making sculptures of myths and mythological heroes for this year’s festival.
“Some 7,500 tons of sand will be used at the Antalya International Sand Sculpture Festival. A 15-meter tall massive sculpture of characters from this year's box-office hit film, ‘Avatar,’ is also being made for the event,” said Karaca, adding that their goal was to realize the world’s largest sand festival next year.
Sculptors will build more than 100 large sculptures, including 300 Spartans, Adam and Eve, Minotaur, Troy, Elvis, Maneki Neko, Hacivat and Karagöz, Mt. Nemrut and Layla and Majnun.
The festival’s sculptures will be on display until Nov. 20.
